The following industry experts are confirmed to speak at the TiO2 World Summit 2019:

  • Reg Adams

    Chief Executive Artikol

    After graduating in Chemistry & Economics from Birmingham University, Reg Adams began his career at Amalgamated Metal and was later seconded to English China Clays (now Imerys), where he wrote his MBA thesis on company growth. At British Sulphur (now CRU) during the 1970s, he edited a range of publications on industrial chemicals and fertiliser raw materials. His first book Titanium & Titanium Dioxide (ISBN 0903199793) was published by Financial Times Business Books in May 1984. His seventh and most recent book Titanium Minerals: Global Industry, Market & Outlook (ISBN 9781910922088) was published by Roskill in August 2016. Reg Adams has also been retained as an expert witness in matters of commercial litigation or investment scrutiny and he has been commissioned as a speaker at more than 60 international conferences, including each of the TiO2 conferences hosted by Smithers (and predecessor companies) since 1992. He has also chaired a number of conference sessions. His company - Artikol (founded in 1977) - specialises in market intelligence and publishing on mining and chemicals.   • Gerry Colamarino

    Managing Director TiPMC Consulting

    Gerry Colamarino is currently the Managing Director of TiPMC Solutions LLC, specializing in consulting activities within the TiO2 value chain. He has over 30 years of international experience within the chemical, mining, and energy industries, having had multiple professional and leadership positions within the former DuPont Titanium Technologies (Chemours), Iluka Resources, and Bloom Energy.

    In 2014, Gerry founded TiPMC Solutions LLC. TiPMC is a recognized thought leader and independent resource for all subjects pertaining to the TiO2 value chain. TiPMC employs a unique network of industry and functional experts, providing boutique consulting and advisory services, industry publications, and data services to financial institutions and industry participants world-wide.

    Gerry is a graduate of Rutgers University, earning a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He lives outside Wilmington, DE in Landenberg, PA.

  • Prof. Dr. Damjana Drobne

    Head of the group for Nanobiology and Nanotoxicology Univeristy of Ljubljana

    Damjana Drobne is a Full Professor of Toxicology from University of Ljubljana with thirty years of research experiences. She is the founder and principal investigator of a research group for nanobiology and nanotoxicology (http://www.bionanoteam.com/). Together with national and international colleges she has published more than 140 original scientific publications and many book chapters. Her group was a partner in two large scale 7.OP EU projects (NanoMile, NanoValid), is a partner in two Horizon 2020 project (NanoFase, NANOROGO) and MSCA-ITN-2015 project (Pandora). At a national level, her group was founder of two national centers of excellence (CO NAMASTE and CO NanoCentre). Since 2001, she is continuously coordinating national research projects. Recently they are focused on neurotoxicity. She is an advisor to Slovenian Innovation Hub-European Economic Interest Grouping (http://www.sis-egiz.eu/) as an expert responsible for nanosafety. Prof. Dr. Damjana Drobne has supervised or co-supervised more than 20 PhD students. She is lecturing at undergraduate as well as postgraduate study programs at University of Ljubljana in different courses mostly related to molecular mechanisms of toxicity. In recent years, her professional interest in devoted also to (nano)material safety data quality evaluation and communication.          

  • Bill Eibon

    Founder, Chief Scientist Adawe Material Science LTD

    Bill Eibon has been a leader in technology, industrial design and manufacturing of polymeric and coatings systems for over 35 years.  He held a wide range of senior leadership and change agent roles during his three-decade career at PPG Industries.  His commercial and operational experiences include Global Technical Director of waterborne coatings, color science, process engineering.  He has been a thought leader for industrial color design, digital color assets and coatings technology for the global Automotive OEM industry.  He has been actively scouting and developing disruptive technologies for the past 5 years. 

    Bill retired from PPG in February 2019.  He is currently Founder and Chief Scientist at Adawe Material Science LTD where he focuses on collaborative technology and business development initiatives between start up and established entities.  He serves as technical and executive advisor for several material science companies

    He joined HygraTek LLC. as Vice President of Commercialization in Q1 2019.  HygraTek is a specialty coatings company specializing in reactive surfaces. 

    He holds a BSc. Chemistry degree from Baldwin Wallace University, and has a passion for collaborative development & commercialization of leading-edge technologies.

  • Jodi J. Francis

    Buyer-Colours LUSH

    Jodi Francis grew up in the Caribbean and always had a longstanding interest in Applied Sciences as well as a love for colour cosmetics. She explored this curiosity by pursuing her undergraduate degree in Cosmetic Science, followed by what was supposed to be short placement, worked for Ashland Speciality Ingredients before returning to full-time education. She graduated with Distinction from her Master’s in Formulation Science in 2014 and has since worked as a Development Chemist for start-up London brand Ainsel Limited before her current role as a Buyer for Lush Cosmetics Limited. She brings a unique perspective within industry from having worked in R&D for both a large- scale multinational company as well as a smaller start up brand and now applying her technical knowledge to commercially sourcing raw materials. 

  • Robert Gibney

    Robert Gibney is General Manager Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) Sales for Iluka Resources, based in Raleigh, North Carolina, United States. 

    Mr. Gibney has over 30 years of pigment industry experience, having spent over 21 years with Tronox/Kerr-McGee Chemical in a wide variety of management positions, including

    Vice President Global Pigment Marketing, Vice President Investor Relations and Corporate Affairs, Senior Vice President Global Supply Chain and Chief Administrative Officer.

  • Bruce Griffin

    Senior Vice President Strategic Development Lomon Billions

    Bruce Griffin joined Lomon Billions in 2017 as Senior Vice President Strategic Development. His role is to lead the company’s domestic and international expansion in feedstock, pigment and titanium metal. Bruce is an experienced executive with international experience in mining, oil and gas, chemicals and agribusiness.

    Prior to Lomon Billions, Bruce was CEO of TZMI (2014 to 2016) and World Titanium Resources (2011 to 2013) and held a number of positions over seven years at BHP Billiton including four years as Vice President Titanium where he was responsible for BHP Billiton’s titanium business, including the Richards Bay Minerals joint venture with Rio Tinto and the Corridor Sands and Tigen projects in Mozambique.

    His career started at Shell working as an engineer and economist in New Zealand, Venezuela and the Netherlands. Bruce has also worked as a consultant for Bain and Company and as a senior executive at GrainCorp in Australia. Bruce holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical and Process Engineering, a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and an MBA.

  • Jianwei Li

    Vice President Yibin Tianyuan Group Co., Ltd.

    Mr Jianwei Li currently serves as vice president of Yibin Tianyuan Group, and hold a seat at Yibin Tianyuan Group board meeting. Mr Li is also the chairman of Yibin Tianyuan Import and Export Trade Co., Ltd, and executive director of Yibin Haifeng Xinhua Trading Co., Ltd.

    Jianwei Li joined Tianyuan Group Co., Ltd. in 1997, and served as Director of Information Management Office, Director of President Office, Deputy Manager of Transaction Management and Legal Affairs Department, Assistant to President of the Company, Director of the Office of the Board of Directors. Since January 2016, Mr Li was appointed as vice president of Yibin Tianyuan Group. He is in charge of bidding management, risk control, business management, equipment and materials procurement, supply chain management, business model innovation, etc. 

  • David Lockley

    Product Defence and Toxicology Manager of Venator Materials Plc. and Chair of TDMA Scientific Committee

    David works at Venator, formerly the Pigments and Additives Division of the Huntsman Corporation, and provides global support to the business on toxicological and product stewardship issues for its new and existing products.

    He also provides technical (scientific) leadership to industry-wide trade associations, consortia and task forces involved in human health research, risk assessment, and regulatory agency interaction.

    David is the Chair of the Titanium Dioxide Manufacturers Association (TDMA) Scientific Committee and CLH Task Force.

    After receiving his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Sunderland, David obtained a MSc in Toxicology from Birmingham, PhD in Biochemical Toxicology from Newcastle and Post Doctoral Studies in Molecular Toxicology from Dundee.

    He has been a European Registered Toxicologist (ERT) since 2008 and is a member of the British Toxicology Society (BTS).

    David has over 15 years industrial experience working as a toxicologist in the Pharmaceutical, FMCG, Chemical, Retail and Consultancy sectors in the UK.

  • Bruce MacFadzean

    Managing Director Sheffield Resources Ltd

    A qualified mining engineer with more than 35 years’ experience in the global resources industry, Mr McFadzean has led the financing, development and operation of several new mines around the world.  His skills are driving the development of Sheffield’s world-class Thunderbird Minerals Sands Project.
    Mr McFadzean’s professional career includes 15 years with BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto in a variety of positions and four years as Managing Director of successful Western Australia gold miner Catalpa Resources Limited (ASX:CAH). Under his management, Catalpa’s market capitalisation grew from $10 million to $1.2 billion following the Evolution merger. He has raised in excess of A$350 million in debt and equity from Australian and overseas markets.

  • Dr. Frank J. Maile

    Global Technical Director SCHLENK Metallic Pigments GmbH

    Dr. Frank J. Maile studied chemistry at the university of Stuttgart followed by a PhD at the Research Center of Pigments & Paints (FPL e.V.) Stuttgart, Germany. In 1999 he joined the pigments division of Merck KGaA in Darmstadt. Since 2011 he has been responsible for the Business Unit Coatings & Plastics of Schlenk Metallic Pigments GmbH in Roth, Germany. Since 2019 he helds the position of a Global Technical Director BU Effect Pigments. He is visiting professor for product development & design and an active member oft he section „Paint Chemistry“ within the German Society of Chemists, GDCh, Since 2015 he is a member of the advisory board of the Color Science Symposium.

  • Frank J. Mitsch

    Senior Managing Director Fermium Research

    Frank recently formed Fermium Research in conjunction with Analyst Hub after spending the previous 7+ years with Wells Fargo Securities. Based in New York, Mitsch’s coverage includes commodity, specialty, and agricultural chemicals.  He joined Wells Fargo Securities from BB&T Capital Markets and has covered the chemicals space for more than 20 years. Mitsch began his career as a chemicals consultant with Kline & Company, living in both the US and Europe, and then went on to work with Betz Laboratories, a specialty chemicals company.   

    Mr. Mitsch received his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology, where he was a member of the record–setting lacrosse team.  He holds an MBA with a concentration in Finance from M.S.U.

  • Prof. Dr. Gerhard Pfaff

    Professor for Inorganic Chemistry and Expert in Pigment Research Technical University of Darmstadt and Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany

    Born in 1953, studied chemistry at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena and graduated with a thesis in the field of inorganic solid state chemistry. He was then research assistant and senior research assistant in Chemistry at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena where he was responsible for teaching many courses in the field of inorganic chemistry. 1991: He began his work in pigment research at Merck in Darmstadt. 1994: He became director of the Product Development Department within the framework of research into effect pigments. From 2006 to 2014, he was director of pigment research. 1994: He began to lecture at the Darmstadt University of Technology where he qualified as a professor in chemistry in 1997. In the same year he was appointed senior lecturer and in 2008 Professor at the Darmstadt University of Technology. Gerhard Pfaff is the author of more than 90 scientific publications and more than 70 patents. His newest book, Inorganic Pigments, was published by de Gruyter in 2017.

  • Jan Prochazka, PhD

    President Advanced Materials – JTJ

    The president of Advanced Materials JTJ, Dr. Jan Prochazka, has spent over two decades in nano-technology research in the USA and in the Czech Republic. Dr. Prochazka is an author of over hundred patents, while most of them were brought to the commercial stage.  His technologies are being used by the Advanced Materials-JTJ,  its four daughter companies,  or have been licensed and implemented by large companies. 

    After joining the Advanced Materials-JTJ in 2006 Dr. Prochazka has continued his intensive nano research in the Czech Republic.  He and his team have brought the air purification photocatalytic technology to the global market. The technology of TiO2 air purifying and self-cleaning coatings is patent-protected worldwide. The FN® Coatings technology is based on TiO2 nano-materials and a special inorganic binding system.  Jan Prochazka has created a whole new generation of intelligent air purifying coatings with a unique three-dimensional structure. This open morphology with highly accessible surface offers a high air and water depollution capacity and many new benefits when compared to the conventional TiO2 photocatalytic paints.  

    Advanced Materials-JTJ  is a recognized leader in the field of applied nanotechnology research and environmental science.  It  has four daughter companies now. Most important are  HE3DA, producing lithium batteries, FN NANO, marketing the photocatalytic coatings and NanoTio with exclusive rights to the patent protected economical manufacturing of TiO2 nanoparticles. NanoEma’s program for thermal barriers allowing construction of faster airplanes, more economical air transportation, and cheaper generation of electricity by gas turbines still provides an opportunity for motivated investors.

  • Jeffry N. Quinn

    Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Tronox Holdings plc

    Jeffry N. Quinn was named Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer on March 28, 2019. Prior to this, Mr. Quinn was President and Chief Executive Officer of Tronox Limited since December 1, 2017, bringing 35 years of experience in the mining, manufacturing and chemicals industries. His proven ability to successfully lead public companies through high-profile and heavily regulated challenges in rapidly changing global markets, in addition to his service as a public company director, will benefit the future of Tronox.

    He has served on the Board of Directors since February 2011.

    From 2012 until assuming his current role, Mr. Quinn was Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Quinpario Partners LLC, a private investment firm. During that time, in addition to making minority investments across the industrial sector, Quinpario Partners was the sponsor of two special purpose acquisition corporations, QPAC1 and QPAC2, which collectively raised more than $500 million and successfully completed two business combinations. QPAC1 completed its business combination in July 2014, becoming Jason Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: JASN). Mr. Quinn served as Chairman of the Board and served as the interim Chief Executive Officer for a period of time. QPAC2 completed its business combination in July 2017, becoming Exela Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: XELA).

    Prior to forming Quinpario Partners, Mr. Quinn was President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Solutia Inc. (formerly NYSE: SOA), a global specialty chemical and performance materials company. From 2004 to 2012, Mr. Quinn served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Solutia and served as the Chairman of the Board from 2006 to 2012, when Solutia was sold to Eastman Chemical. Mr. Quinn joined Solutia in 2003, as Executive Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel.

    Before joining Solutia, Mr. Quinn was Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer, Secretary and General Counsel for Premcor Inc. (formerly NYSE: PCO), which at the time was one of the nation’s largest independent refiners. Mr. Quinn also served as Senior Vice President – Law & Human Resources, Secretary and General Counsel for Arch Coal, Inc. (NYSE: ACI).

    In addition to serving on the Board of Directors of Tronox and Jason, Mr. Quinn serves as a member of the Board of Directors of W.R. Grace & Co. (NYSE: GRA), a global supplier of catalysts, engineered and packaging materials, and specialty chemicals, and formerly served on the boards of Ferro Corporation (NYSE: FOE), a global supplier of technology-based performance materials and chemicals; SunEdison, Inc. (formerly MEMC Electronic Materials Inc.); and Tecumseh Products Company.

    Mr. Quinn received a bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Kentucky.

  • Johan Rommens

    Business Development Manager of Chemours Titanium Technologies Chair of TDMA Sustainability Task Force

    Johan Rommens studied organic chemistry at the University of Leuven Belgium. After obtaining his master he made a PhD in photochemistry at the same university. He obtained his PhD in 1998.

    Johan spent 4 years at ICI Belgium as EMEA technical service manager for surfactants in crop protection.

    In 2002 Johan joined DuPont Performance Coatings in Mechelen, Belgium. He worked for 4 years as R&D chemist in the development of coatings for the automotive industry.

    In 2006 Johan moved to DuPont Titanium Technologies where he joined the technical marketing team for TiO2 in coatings applications. Since then he has been supporting many customers in the coatings applications in various regions throughout EMEA.

    Since March 2018 he has been Business Development Manager for Coatings applications in EMEA. In that role Johan is responsible for all technical and marketing activities for TiO2 in the coatings market in EMEA. He is also Chair of the Sustainability Task Force of the European TiO2 Manufacturers Association (TDMA).

  • Deependra Singh

    Chairman & Managing Director IREL (India) Limited

    Mr. Deependra Singh is the Chairman and Managing Director of IREL (India) Limited, a Central Public Sector Undertaking under the aegis of Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India   He has rich and varied experience spanning over more than 3 decades in various industrial field. Mr. Singh is holding Master’s degree in Technology & Management with specialisation in Industrial Design and Marketing Management respectively.  He is holding the credential of association in various projects under World Bank, OPEC and Asian Development Bank including prestigious projects of Central Govt. and UNIDO fellowship under his leadership.  He is recipient of several Awards including Public Sector Enterprises Excellence Award 2016 for corporate governance and Public Sector Enterprises Excellence Award for outstanding contribution to Indian Public Sector Industry. Mr. Singh is conferred with the National Best Employer Award 2018 by Global employer Branding Institute, India’s Best Company  of the Year Award 2018 based on survey conducted by Berkshire Media Pvt. Ltd. and the prestigious SCOPE award for “Excellence and Outstanding contribution to the Public Sector Management – Special Institutional (Turnaround) category 2016-17”. He is credited with over 65 presentations in international mineral and other conferences.  Mr. Singh is the President of the Rare Earths Association of India, Chairman of Processed Mineral Panel of CAPEXIL and other prestigious industrial associations.

  • Stefan Suetterlin

    Vice President Business Management BASF Colors & Effects GmbH

    Stefan studied Business Administration and Engineering at the University of Karlsruhe. In 1990, he joined BASF in the business areas of Textile & Leather Chemicals. Since 2003, Stefan has held several leadership positions in pigments. Leading the integration of the pigment activities of Engelhard in 2007 and Ciba in 2009 and designing the carve-out of the BASF pigment activities into BASF Colors & Effects in 2016, today Stefan is as Managing Director responsible for the global Business Management of the company.

  • Jean-François Turgeon

    Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Tronox

    Mr. Turgeon joined Tronox on January 1, 2014. He oversees the combined company’s mineral sands and pigment and electrolytic business operations. Mr. Turgeon brings decades of experience in leadership positions in the global titanium dioxide business. He joined Tronox from the Rio Tinto Group, where he served for more than 24 years, most recently in London as managing director of its $3 billion iron and titanium division. In that role, he had oversight of international TiO2 operations in Canada, South Africa, and Madagascar, and regional sales offices in the Americas, Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. Previously, he held several executive, mining operations, and chemical research engineering positions in Rio Tinto’s titanium dioxide business unit. Mr. Turgeon holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Université Laval and a master’s degree in hydrometallurgy from McGill University.

  • Dr. Karin Tynelius

    Advisor Mineral Markets

    Karin is an advisor and a Non-Executive Director for the TiO2 and the battery mineral industries.  She is specialized in market intelligence, the supply and demand value chain, and brings a wide range of experiences from the mining, metallurgical and chemical industry. 

    She started her career at Sandvik Steel in Sweden before moving to the United States to pursue her doctoral degree. She then worked in research for Rio Tinto Alcan in Canada before moving to France where she joined Air Liquide.  In 1999, Karin joined the French mining and metallurgical company Eramet in Paris, France, where she held various positions in technical development before joining TiO2 feedstock producer TiZir as a London-based market analyst.  Since 2019 she exercises as an independent NED on the board of Finnish lithium producer Keliber.  Karin is a member of the advisory board for the TiO2 Summit since 2018. 

    Karin received her MS degree in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm in 1988, Sweden, and her PhD from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA, USA in 1992.

  • Andy White

    Business Unit Director Paints and Plastics FP Pigments OY

    After a degree in Chemistry from Nottingham University, Andy started work making polymers and subsequently industrial coatings for ICI in Birmingham in 1984. In 1991 he stepped into raw materials when he moved to SCM Chemicals (latterly Millennium Chemicals and now Cristal/Tronox) as a Technical Service Manager. There followed a 17 year career in TiO2, selling into both the coatings and plastics markets and ending up in some of their highest sales positions (Global Account Manager – Akzo, BASF, PPG). 

    In 2007 Andy moved out of TiO2 into coloured pigments as European Sales Director for Rockwood Pigments (now Venator), moving on the Cathay Pigments as VP for Global Key accounts in 2013.

    In early 2017 Andy stepped back into the TiO2 sphere enticed by the next generation opacifying technology with FP Pigments and now heads up the Paints and Plastic Business Unit for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia.

  • Dr. Stefan C. Wieditz

    R&D Director, Strategic Color Initiatives The Sherwin-Williams Company

    Dr. Stefan C. Wieditz is the R&D Director, Global Color Strategic Initiatives with The Sherwin-Williams Company’s Performance Coatings Group in Cleveland, OH, USA. He previously served Akzo Nobel Coatings, Inc. and BASF Coatings AG in various technical and marketing functions and roles, focusing on Automotive OEM and Refinish products. He is experienced with the Automotive-, Commercial- and Specialty Vehicles industries in Europe, North America and Asia. Before joining Sherwin-Williams, he held the position of a Director RD&I Performance Coatings at Akzo Nobel Coatings in the Netherlands where he streamlined, consolidated and de-complexed colorants and pigment portfolios of 3 independent business units and promoted inter-BU sharing with a global responsibility. As Director RD&I Automotive Technology for Akzo Nobel in the USA, he created and managed a global group to ensure product compliance with automotive OEM specifications worldwide. For BASF Coatings, he started his career in poly-, oligomer-and resin synthesis in Germany, served as Technical Manager Glasurit in the USA, Senior Technical Manager for a JV with Nippon Oil & Fats in Japan and as Key Account Manager for the European Automotive Industry in Germany. He is a multi-culturally accomplished leader who designs, recruits, operates and improves technical and commercial organizations. He holds PhD and MS equivalent degrees in Chemistry with focus on Organic Chemistry and is experienced in paint and coatings research, development of coatings' products and systems, innovation of new ways of application, manufacturing and process optimization.
