An Exclusive Interview With Julie Reid

1.    You are going to be speaking about delivering new TiO2 pigment capacity in China and what LB is working on at the moment, can you give a sneak peak of what people will hear about in your session?

"China is currently home to 58% of the world’s titanium dioxide (TiO2) pigment manufacturing capacity. With circa 1510kt TiO2 pigment manufacturing capacity, equivalent to around 15% of the world’s total capacity, LB Group is the world’s largest manufacturer of titanium dioxide pigments. In 2024, the company exported approximately 57% of its TiO2 pigments. At the TiO2 World Summit I will share China’s approach to sustainability, and how LB Group is aligning its strategy to embed sustainability into the organization’s culture.  "

2.    What is your biggest driver as a business today?

"LB Group is a customer-focused, marketing-led organization. Our biggest driver is always the desire to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations. We are targeting a strong market share in all regions of the world, and a sustainable position as global market leader, in both sales and manufacturing capacity. We are strengthening our position and market access through continuous improvement, strategic market growth both geographically and by end-use application, and with innovative TiO2 pigments, like TMP-free products, and high-performance TiO2 pigments that can contribute to global sustainability goals."

3.    What do you think will be the biggest challenge for the TiO2 sector in the coming five years?

"It would be courageous to predict the challenges that the TiO2 industry is likely to face over the next 5 years; in 2020, who could have predicted the unprecedented challenges posed by the global pandemic? That said, it is clear that one of the biggest ongoing challenges for the global TiO2 industry, and for most manufacturing industries, is to balance the need for economic growth with effective ways to help tackle climate targets."

4.    What do you see as some of the most interesting developments in the market now?

"Forecasts indicate that global TiO2 demand will exceed 7800kt in 2025 including increasing demand from countries in Asia-Pacific and in the middle east. The Chinese TiO2 industry, and LB Group in particular, are ready to help meet the demand. I’m pleased to see an increasing trend towards developing TiO2 pigments aimed at helping to create a more sustainable world, for example, those that help to lower a product’s carbon footprint or improve their sustainability over the product life cycle."

5.    What are you most looking forward to at the event?

"It’s always a pleasure to attend the TiO2 World Summit. It provides a valuable opportunity to meet and listen to our industry’s experts and to exchange perspectives. I'm particularly interested in meeting experts whose work I’m less familiar with. And, of course, I'm looking forward to reconnecting with old friends."
